Last Time with the Trainer

Dear Family and Friends

We had kind of a different week this week you could say.  On Tuesday I got to go to a different area on tradeoffs with my trainer and we had a great time.  It was really cold that day so we went and invited people to a scripture study class at the church that they are starting.  It was good to go on one last trade off before he leaves.

The rest of the week we were without a car and South Haven is a tourist town.  All of our investigators and the other people we teach are in other towns so it was a little slower.  It was crazy.   We were finding and knocked for 4 hours.  We only got to talk to 15 or 20 people because most of the houses are empty.

We had a cool lesson with one of our investigators this week that really has the desire to be baptized but is scared to get baptized in the wrong church.  We have been really focusing on helping her get an answer.  That is probably the hardest part of missionary work is helping an investigator recognized their answer.  Well I got to go love you all and miss you all!!  See you soon.

Fun in Finding

Dear Family and Friends!!!

We had a great week here and had lots of success!  We met with a girl named Chelsea that her Uncle is a member here and came to church and loved it.  We taught her for the first time this week and she is awesome!  She is going to get baptized soon.  It was a pretty funny lesson because there were so many people there. Some of the time it was hard to focus on the lesson.  I have learned that I have a hard time staying on topic when there are lots of people.

On Wednesday we got to go to zone conference in Kalmazoo which is always fun to see other missionaries.  It was awesome because I got to be there for my trainer, Elder Ginn’s departing testimony.  It is great to see how much he has changed and how much he has taught me.

It was crazy on Friday because we planned on finding all day.  I was not looking forward to it but it turned out to be a great day!!  We had so many people let us in.  We didn't get any new investigators out of it but we got to teach what we know to be true. One of the coolest conversations we had was with a Lutheran minister.  He had a lot of questions about us; most of it was anti but we got to answer all of his questions about our beliefs.  He was surprised how well we knew the bible.  I know that before my mission I would never have known anything he was talking about.

Oh the pictures are from our week. The pancakes were our Valentine’s Day dinner and the other is on the beach all frozen over. Love and Miss you all! Thanks for all the Emails!!!

South Haven with Elder Holladay

Dear Family and Friends

I am now in South Haven with Elder Holladay. Elder Holladay is from Washington and loves to run!!!  He has trying to get me back into shape and it hasn't been too fun.  He is such a funny little Asian.  We are going to have a great transfer together.

South Haven is pretty sweet!!!  It is kind of weird right now though because it is a tourist town and most of the homes right on the lake are second homes and no one lives there right now in the winter.  From what I have heard that this place is amazing in the summer time so I hope I get to stay until then.

We had a great week, one of my favorite things was we were finding and we knocked into a 96 year old lady that let us in.  We taught her about the restoration and the Book of Mormon.  After our lesson she asked us some questions about the soul of Adam and Eve. We were able to answer her questions using the Book of Mormon.  It strengthened my testimony of the book of Mormon and how it teaches us the fullness of the gospel and how grateful I am to have it and have that knowledge of Adam and Eve and so much more.  We didn't get a return apt with her but left her a copy of The Book of Mormon for her but we did get to answer her question that she has had for the past 96 years.

Oh one of the funniest things that happened this week was we were checking up on a former investigator and a lady answered the door.  She said the person we were looking for was busy and could not come to the phone right now.  It took all that we had not to start laughing because we were at her door.  Oh the great moments that you have talking to people!!  One other funny thing was we went to a care center to visit one of the members there and we went and talked to her while she was at dinner.  One of the others there had terahertz and was swearing like crazy and again it took all that we had not to laugh!!! Love you and miss you all!! I hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day!!

Leaving Home All Over Again

Dear Family and Friends!!!

Well today is my last day in Charlotte.  I will be transferred tomorrow to South Haven. I am actually really sad to be leaving Charlotte, I have had such a good time here and there are so many great people here that I am going to miss.  It is like leaving home all over again.  I will probably not see the people here again at least in this life.

I really don't know much about South Haven except it is on the cost of Lake Michigan and we live half a mile from the beach.  It sounds really good but I have no idea about anything else.   My new comp is going to be Elder Holiday.  All I know about him is that he has been out 4 months and I will be his second comp.

I am way excited because my trainer is on his last transfer and we are going to be in the same district so I will get to see him a lot before he goes home.
Church yesterday was great saying good bye to everyone.  It would be hard being a member here having missionaries coming and going when you get attached to them.

Oh I almost forgot that I am done training Elder Eggertsen.  He is so funny.  He keeps telling me that I have to go to his home coming when he gets home.  It has been a great experience serving with Elder Eggertsen and see him grow so much over the 12 weeks.  That was probably my favorite part about it.  Well I love you all and I will talk to you next week and tell you all about South Haven!!!!  Love and miss you all!!!

PS These are just some of my favorite people here in Charlotte
